OUR MANIFESTO

Why do we need positive news

We are living surrounded by bad news.

We are not denying that bad things happen. We are not denying the value of uncovering and analysing them.
What we believe is that is neither healthy nor fair to fill newspapers every day with horrible facts, at the expense of the advancements and improvements constantly made across the world.

What we believe is that such practice is shifting the perception of the people toward cynicism and negativity, paving the way to authoritarian figures promising to return towards a mythical past that in fact has never been there.
That is why we are supporting a new enlightenment point of view.

New enlightenment is about praising the advances we make and giving them visibility, lobbying government to invest in research, and fuel positive feelings in the population, so that more ideas can flourish and drive more investments, progress.

New enlightenment is against repression. We believe we can make a better use of what is out there and invest in technology and research to reduce its risks and increment its inner value.

Data don’t lie, and all the data points toward a world where we have reduced poverty and mortality rate, where our money buy more food and leisure, where we have access to knowledge at a fraction of a cost.
We believe there’s no need to our country great again. It’s already much better than what it was fifty years ago. It’s just about telling that to a broader audience.

Strong challenges are ahead, but history shows that we keep making discoveries that are supporting our growth. All the “end of the world” predictions that had been made in the past proved wrong. We are not even close to deplete our resources, nor we are not all dying of hunger. The wars we are experiencing are small in scale, making far less victims. As a planet, we have never enjoyed a long period of peace.

Certainly, we can’t sit back and relax, waiting for more improvements to happen. It’s key to know what is not working or that there are many challenges ahead (global warming being the most important one).
Being in a positive trajectory doesn’t mean that people are no longer dying avoidable death, or that our lives can’t be better.

New enlightenment aim is to spread the faith in science and progress, not in mysticism, magic, religion nor pessimism fuelling authoritarian governments those policies are based on a perceived fear. This is the ultimate goal, and we need support from everyone at every level.
